What Is a PCOS Assessment Call and Is It Right for You?

You know something needs to change, but you are not sure what kind of support you need or who you should speak to next.

Perhaps you have recently been diagnosed with PCOS / PMOS but were given very little information about what the diagnosis means for your health or fertility.

Maybe you have irregular or absent periods, signs of insulin resistance, hormonal symptoms or concerns about ovulation. You may have been told to lose weight, take the contraceptive pill or return when you are ready to become pregnant, but you still do not understand what may be contributing to your symptoms or what you can do now.

Or perhaps you are beginning to think about pregnancy and quietly wondering:

Will PCOS / PMOS make it difficult for me to conceive?

You may know that you want more support but feel unsure whether naturopathic care is the right next step.

That is why I offer a free 15-minute PCOS Assessment Call.

The call gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has been happening for you, understand what you would like to achieve and determine whether my approach may be suitable for your needs.

It is not a mini naturopathic consultation, and you do not need to arrive with all the answers. It is simply a place to begin.

Why Can It Be Difficult to Know What to Do After a PCOS / PMOS Diagnosis?

Many women leave a medical appointment knowing they have PCOS but not understanding what that means for their individual health.

You may have been told:

  • “Just lose weight.”

  • “Take the pill to regulate your cycle.”

  • “Come back when you are ready to get pregnant.”

  • “You may need fertility medication.”

  • “There is medication available if you have trouble conceiving.”

These conversations can leave you with more questions than answers.

PCOS, now also referred to as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, or PMOS is not only about having irregular periods or polycystic-appearing ovaries.

It is a hormonal and metabolic condition that can affect ovulation, androgen hormones, insulin regulation and many areas of your health. Your individual health picture may also involve nutrient deficiencies, thyroid concerns, inflammation, stress, sleep, digestive health and other factors that deserve consideration.

This means two women with the same diagnosis may experience very different symptoms and require different types of support.

Understanding your individual health picture often requires more than choosing one supplement, following a generic PCOS / PMOS diet or focusing only on regulating your menstrual cycle.

What Is a PCOS Assessment Call?

A PCOS Assessment Call is a free 15-minute conversation with me, Madison Matthews, a bachelor-qualified naturopath and founder of The PCOS Naturopath.

The purpose of the call is to learn more about:

  • What you are currently experiencing

  • Your main PCOS / PMOS, hormonal or fertility concerns

  • How long these concerns have been affecting you

  • What support or investigations you have already pursued

  • What you would like to improve

  • Whether you are actively trying to conceive or preparing for pregnancy in the future

  • What you would like your health and fertility journey to look like moving forward

I will also explain how I work, what the next step may involve and whether my naturopathic approach appears to align with the support you are looking for.

The call allows both of us to determine whether we may be a good fit before you commit to an initial naturopathic consultation.

Who Is a PCOS Assessment Call For?

A PCOS Assessment Call may be suitable if you have PCOS / PMOS or suspect you may have PCOS / PMOS and you:

  • Have irregular, long or absent menstrual cycles

  • Are unsure whether you are ovulating

  • Experience symptoms such as acne, excess facial or body hair, scalp hair loss or difficulty managing your weight

  • Have concerns about insulin resistance or your metabolic health

  • Feel tired, overwhelmed or unlike yourself

  • Have been told your blood results are “normal” but continue to experience symptoms

  • Have received conflicting information about PCOS / PMOS

  • Feel unsure about what your diagnosis means for your fertility

  • Are beginning to think about having a baby

  • Want to prepare your health before trying to conceive

  • Have been trying to conceive and are unsure what to do next

  • Want a more comprehensive investigation of your health

  • Are looking for personalised support rather than another generic PCOS / PMOS plan

You do not need to be actively trying to become pregnant to book.

Many women begin thinking about their fertility months or years before they are ready to start trying. This can be an opportunity to better understand your cycle, investigate potential contributing factors and build stronger health foundations before pregnancy becomes an immediate goal.

Why Book a PCOS Assessment Call?

1. You Are Tired of Trying to Work Everything Out Yourself

There is an overwhelming amount of PCOS / PMOS information available online.

One person recommends removing carbohydrates. Another says you need to lose weight. Someone else suggests a particular supplement, intensive exercise program or hormone-balancing diet.

It can be difficult to know which information is relevant to you.

PCOS / PMOS does not affect every woman in the same way. Your symptoms, pathology results, health history, menstrual cycle, lifestyle and goals all contribute to your individual health picture.

The assessment call provides an opportunity to briefly explain what has been happening and determine whether a more personalised approach may be appropriate.

2. You Have Not Received the Answers You Were Hoping For

You may have already seen your GP, an endocrinologist, a gynaecologist or another health practitioner.

Medical care can play an important role in PCOS / PMOS diagnosis and management. However, some women still leave appointments feeling as though they do not fully understand their condition or have a clear plan for moving forward.

You may have received medication without understanding why it was prescribed.

You may have been told to lose weight without being given practical support.

You may have been advised to return when you are ready to conceive, despite wanting to improve your health now.

A PCOS / PMOS Assessment Call allows you to explore whether naturopathic care may provide the additional education, investigation and ongoing support you are seeking.

Naturopathic care does not need to replace medical care. It can work alongside your existing healthcare team while considering your broader health picture.

3. You Are Worried About What PCOS / PMOS Means for Your Fertility

Many women are told that PCOS may make it difficult to become pregnant, but receive little guidance about what they can do before they begin trying.

This can create years of uncertainty.

You may wonder whether you are ovulating, whether your egg quality is affected or whether you will need fertility medication or IVF.

PCOS / PMOS does not automatically mean that you will experience infertility. However, understanding your menstrual cycle and addressing relevant health factors before conception may help you feel more informed and prepared.

The assessment call gives you an opportunity to share your concerns and learn whether my preconception-focused approach may be appropriate for you.

4. You Want to Look Beyond Ovulation

Ovulation is important for conception, but it is only one part of the preconception picture.

Becoming pregnant does not automatically address insulin resistance, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, thyroid dysfunction, metabolic concerns or other health factors that may have been present before conception.

Preconception care provides an opportunity to consider your wider health before pregnancy.

Depending on your individual circumstances, this may include investigating areas such as:

  • Menstrual cycle patterns and ovulation

  • Androgen hormones

  • Insulin and blood glucose regulation

  • Thyroid function

  • Nutrient status

  • Inflammation

  • Liver health

  • Stress and emotional wellbeing

  • Nutrition, movement and sleep

The PCOS Assessment Call helps determine whether this broader approach aligns with what you are looking for.

5. You Are Unsure Whether Naturopathic Care Is Right for You

You may be interested in naturopathic support but unsure what working with a naturopath actually involves.

You may wonder:

Will I need to follow a restrictive diet?

Will I be expected to stop my medication?

Will I need expensive testing or a long list of supplements?

Can I continue working with my GP or specialist?

What support will I receive?

The assessment call provides an opportunity to learn more about my approach before deciding whether you would like to proceed.

My aim is not to replace your medical team or ask you to stop prescribed medication.

My role is to consider your health history, symptoms, nutrition, lifestyle, existing pathology and broader health picture, then provide personalised recommendations within my scope of practice.

What Does the PCOS Assessment Call Include?

During the 15-minute call, we will briefly discuss:

  1. Your current challenges

What is happening with your cycle, symptoms, health or fertility and what prompted you to seek support now?

  1. How these concerns are affecting you

How long have they been present, and what impact are they having on your health, confidence or plans for pregnancy?

  1. Your goals

What would you most like to understand, improve or prepare for?

  1. The future you are working towards

What would feeling healthier, more informed and more confident about your fertility look like for you?

  1. Your possible next step

If my approach appears suitable, I will explain how an initial naturopathic consultation works and what support may be available.

There is no expectation that you make an immediate decision during the call.

Is a PCOS Assessment Call the Same as a Naturopathic Consultation?

No.

The PCOS Assessment Call is not a clinical consultation or an opportunity to receive individual treatment recommendations.

During the call, I cannot:

  • Diagnose PCOS / PMOS or another health condition

  • Interpret pathology results

  • Recommend individual supplements or herbal medicines

  • Create a personalised nutrition plan

  • Provide a treatment protocol

  • Give specific advice about prescribed medication

These areas require a comprehensive understanding of your health history and are addressed during a formal naturopathic consultation where appropriate.

The purpose of the assessment call is to understand your concerns, discuss your goals and determine whether working together may be the right next step.

What Happens After the Call?

If we determine that my approach aligns with your needs, the next step is usually to book an Initial Naturopathic Consultation.

Your initial consultation allows us to explore your health in much greater detail.

From there, I may recommend additional pathology or other investigations where appropriate. We can then begin developing a personalised plan based on your health picture, priorities and goals.

Depending on your needs, you may also be invited to continue your support through Clarity to Conception, my comprehensive PCOS / PMOS preconception program.

You Do Not Need to Wait Until You Are Struggling to Conceive

One of the most common messages women with PCOS / PMOS receive is:

“Come back when you are ready to get pregnant.”

However, you do not need to wait until you have been trying for 12 months or until you are already feeling worriedto begin understanding your health.

Preconception care can begin before pregnancy is an immediate goal.

The time before conception may provide an opportunity to:

  • Better understand your menstrual cycle

  • Identify whether you are likely to be ovulating

  • Investigate relevant hormonal and metabolic factors

  • Address nutrient deficiencies

  • Improve nutrition and lifestyle foundations

  • Support your overall health

  • Feel more informed and confident before you begin trying

There is no perfect time to start, but you are allowed to ask questions and seek support before a fertility concern develops.
